pub(super) enum ForwardOutcome {
Delivered(Value),
Stale,
Inconclusive,
}Expand description
What one forward attempt concluded. The distinction that matters is
Stale vs
Inconclusive: only the former is evidence
about the candidate, and only the former may drive an eviction.
Variants§
Delivered(Value)
The peer delivered it. The sender echo has already been emitted; the caller should return this body verbatim.
Stale
The peer answered without delivering (success was not true), or was
unreachable at the transport level. Both are consistent with a registry
entry or discovery-cache entry pointing at something that is no longer
there — but neither proves it (a startup race looks identical), so
each tier applies its own eviction policy on top of this.
Inconclusive
Something failed that says nothing about whether the candidate is alive — a non-2xx status, or a body that wasn’t JSON. Never evict on this; fall through to the next candidate/tier and leave the entry be.
